Bono is calling for Christian music to return to its roots of featuring honest music based on "The Book of Psalms" or "Psalms," as seen in the documentary titled "The Psalms," which features Bono and good friend Eugene Peterson.

In the short film, the U2 band member describes how he has fallen in love with "The Book of Psalms" throughout his life, and how it has been a source of inspiration for him. Bono also shares that upon making a comparison between "Psalms" and modern Christian music, he became disappointed with what Christian music has become.

Many observe that Christian music has evolved to merely a repetition of inspiring words, overuse of jargons, and the use of the same chords being played over and over again.

Ever since Bono became a Christian, he has been very vocal about his faith, as seen in the past few years. As a lover of "The Book of Psalms," he campaigns for true Christian music, which is pure and raw, to be revived.

The singer says that the writer of "Psalms" is too honest about his real emotions like anger, joy, sorrow, and confusion, and it makes him think that church music should be more like that. The rest of his statements can be heard in the documentary, "The Psalms."

"The Psalms" is a documentary from the FULLER Studio that features Bono and Peterson, whose friendship was formed because of their mutual interest in "The Book of Psalms." Peterson is famous for "The Message," a translation of the Bible into modern language.

Bono desires his and Peterson's documentary "The Psalms" will inspire people to write in a more honest tone. He believes it's time for gospels songs to feature difficult themes such as failed marriages and frustrations with the government because he is convinced that God wants people to be honest and open about how they truly feel.
