Christian entertainment company launches homeschooling parents initiative

Pure Flix, an entertainment firm specializing in faith-oriented content, launched its new program to support homeschooling parents. The new page allows parents to sign up for a free four-week curriculum support kit to help them educate their children.

"For the past six months, we've listened to what homeschool families have told us about the support they need to enhance their homeschooling efforts," said Greg Gudorf, CEO of Pure Flix Digital. "Based on that feedback, we decided to launch this initiative and use our videos to help them and their children," he added.

The company's video library offers thousands of documentaries with topics ranging from Biblical stories to animals to the government. Subscribers will be sent a list of suggested titles every week for a whole month.

Tim Lambert, president of the Texas Home School Coalition, welcomed the entertainment company's initiative.

"We strongly support Pure Flix in their efforts to assist families with healthy media choices," said Lambert. "Putting parents in charge of creative ways to enhance and enrich their children's education is a critical component in today's confused culture," he continued.

Homeschooling is growing in popularity in the U.S. Back in 2007, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reported that there were about 1.5 million homeschooled students. The number has grown to 1.77 million in 2012, according to the report released by NCES in 2015.

The report revealed that homeschooling families come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. About 35 percent have a household income of $50,000, 26 percent have a household income between $50,000 and $75,000 while 39 percent have a household income above $75,000.

The market research conducted by Pure Flix indicates that some parents who homeschool want to educate their children with a Christian worldview. Other reasons point to the Common Core Curriculum, school safety and controversial subjects.

"The growth has been phenomenal and shows no signs of slowing down," said Gudorf. He asserts that the figure of homeschooled students could even be larger because some states do not report the exact numbers.
