Destiny 2 release date, news and updates: Popular video game sequel expected to role out later in 2017, Rise of Iron expansion to arrive later this year

Destiny The Game
"Destiny 2" is getting "rebooted," with a release date slated for 2017.

Fans of hit video game franchise "Destiny"are all hyped up for the new expansion set to be available this year, along with the confirmation that the much-awaited sequel "Destiny 2" will hit the shelves in the latter part of next year. Back in February, Activision confirmed its plans for the franchise through a press statement for its fourth-quarter earnings report which reads:

"Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion to Destiny in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017."

A recent report from Kotaku claimed that the upcoming sequel has been "rebooted." Further details about the game's production were not mentioned, but if one thing is for sure, there was a staff reorganization among the people working on "Destiny 2." An excerpt from the Kotaku report reads:

"From what we hear, Destiny 2 was recently rebooted, with Taken King director Luke Smith taking the reins of that project in the wake of a Bungie staff reorganization."

While fans await for the game sequel, they may have their hands on the latest "Destiny" expansion pack called "Rise of Iron" expected to arrive later this year. The company has yet to announce an official release date for the DLC, but reports say that it will be out soon enough. As noted by Gamespot, not much details have been given out regarding the DLC but Activision described it to be "large." This might mean that it might be more similar to The Taken King, compared to the two previously released smaller DLCs.

As of now, "Destiny" already has three expansions which include The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King. The game has proved to be one of the best-selling titles in the industry as it recently celebrated a whopping 30 million registered players all over the world.
