"Nymphomaniac" star Charlotte Gainsbourg may be one of the lead stars to watch out for in Fox's "Independence Day 2."

Gainsbourg could possibly join the cast of the second instalment of the box office hit, which will star Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the French actress is currently in talks with Fox for the movie that is going to be directed by Roland Emerich.

There are still no details about the potential role for Gainsbourg, who has worked on several Lars von Trier's films including "Antichrist," "Melancholia," and both "Nymphomaniac" films.

But should the negotiations proved successful, Gainsbourg will have her first appearance in a bonafide Hollywood blockbuster film, which grossed over $800 million 20 years ago.

Her other credits include "The Science of Sleep" and "I'm Not There."

The daughter of Serge Gainsbourg will also be seen on the screen drama "Oppenheimer Strategies" opposite Dan Stevens, Richard Gere, and Michael Sheen.

"Independence Day 2" is set for release on June 24, 2016 or almost 20 years after the first original sci-fi action film hit theaters on July 3, 1996.

Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser will be producing while James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft.

Since Smith won't be returning to reprise his old role as Captain Steve Hiller, 23-year-old Jessie Usher has been cast to portray his son, Dylan Hiller.

It has also been speculated that The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth will be playing the son-in-law of Bill Pullman's President Thomas Whitmore, according to Cinema Blend.

Jeff Goldblum will be back to play his old role as David Levinson, the MIT computer expert who alongside Smith's pilot managed to save the world from destruction in "Independence Day."

That original movie is currently the 43rd highest grossing film of all time and was at the forefront of the large-scale disaster film and science fiction resurgences of the mid-to-late-1990s.

It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and was also nominated for Best Sound Mixing.
