'Lethal Weapon' season 1 episode 5 spoilers: LAPD's finest meet their match; Riggs opens up to Murtaugh

Now that "Lethal Weapon" has been given five more episodes to expand its narrative, there may be hope yet for L.A. Police Department's (LAPD) odd couple Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) to forge a more normal partnership.

While last week's episode of FOX's police procedural series showed the detectives rising above their worst altercation to date amid a burglary case, this week's episode will feature more progress in Riggs and Murtaugh's budding friendship in yet another case.

It seems that the more cases they tackle together, the closer they become. With the additional five episodes bringing the freshman season's official episode count to 18, will Murtaugh eventually convince Riggs to get himself a proper home? And will Riggs finally start listening to his partner?

In this week's episode titled "Spilt Milk," the LAPD detectives will be investigating a case that involves a former Navy SEAL like Riggs. The character will be played by Michael Raymond-James, who was previously seen as Baelfire in ABC's fantasy series "Once Upon A Time."

In an exclusive clip posted by Entertainment Weekly, Raymond-James' character is seen trying to strike a deal with Riggs. He has a mission he needs to finish first and vows that he'll willingly turn himself in if Riggs will only let him do what he has to do. Whatever his mission is, he never gets to say as he starts shooting and running away.

The character proves to be just as reckless as Riggs is and their similar military experience may interfere in solving the case. This could also possibly lead Riggs to open up to Murtaugh and perhaps help his partner understand the suspect's psyche.

Meanwhile, in another exclusive clip posted exclusively on TV Guide, Murtaugh sees a rival in Desmond, his wife Trish's (Keesha Sharp) new assistant, and makes sure that the younger man, whom he miscalls as Denzel, knows who he is and what he does.

"I see a lot of dead bodies," Murtaugh says to which the unfazed Denzel replies, "Cool."

"Lethal Weapon" season 1 episode 5 airs on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX. Below is the official episode preview.
