Suspected Boko Haram militants carry out series of attacks killing at least eight in Borno, Nigeria

Members of Boko Haram are believed to be behind the multiple attacks that occured in Borno State in Nigeria last Sunday.

Witnesses said that the attackers killed eight people outside a church in Kwamjilari village in Nigeria but authorities only mentioned two victims. The victims were said to be on their way home after attending a church service in the village.

A local chief from the nearby Kautikeri village claimed that the attackers also set fire to homes and crops that were almost ready for harvest.

An unnamed resident of Chibok said that many villagers fled to the nearby town of Chibok after the attack.

"It was a sad incident in Kwamjilari village," he said. "The gunmen who invaded the village on motorbikes opened fire on the people as they returned home after the Sunday church service," he added.

The terror group is also believed to be responsible for another attack on a military convoy that killed at least six people in the Sanda district of Borno State on Monday.

"Suspected elements of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who were foraging for food, ambushed troops... escorting commercial vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri," said army spokesman Sani Usman.

Usman added that three soldiers were injured and that the six victims who died were civilians. He also clarified that the murders at Kwamjilari village did not occur outside a church and mentioned only two victims instead of eight.

"What happened was that, two persons were murdered at Kwamjilari village by suspected remnants of Boko Haram terrorists looking for food." he said.

Usman added that the people from Kwamjilari village were moved to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Chibok. He said that the victims went back to the village against the advice of the authorities.

A week before the attacks, Boko Haram released a video labeling Nigerian President Muhammad Buhari as an infidel and threatened to carry out more attacks. The spokesman who appeared in the video stated that it was made on Sept., 12, during the celebration of the Islamic festival Eid al-Adha.
