Roma Downey creates new online community for believers worldwide
Actress and film producer Roma Downey has announced the creation of a new online community that would unite, inspire and encourage believers across the globe.
In a video posted on Instagram, Downey revealed that she and her husband, Mark Burnett, are venturing into online platforms and they are launching a new website called Lightworkers.com.
"At Lightworkers we are on a mission to brighten your day and who doesn't need more of that, right?" she said.
"There will be lots of good news to spread with your friends and family and lots of inspiration to get you living your best life," she continued.
In recent years, Downey has used Lightworkers Media, a faith and family division of MGM, to bring projects like the 2014 feature film "Son of God" and the new interpretation of "Ben-Hur" to the faith community. But now, she is expanding the brand from TV and film to an online community.
"We'll make you think, we'll make you laugh, we might even make you cry... and hopefully it'll add a little more light to your world. Pass it on," the website states.
"LightWorkers celebrates the good all around us â€” reminding us that the human spirit is unwavering, full of possibility and capable of inspiring change," it continued.
Burnett and Downey, who got married in 2007, have produced several successful television miniseries, including the Emmy-nominated "The Bible," which was viewed by more than 100 million people in the U.S., "The Dovekeepers," and "A.D. The Bible Continues."
In March, Variety reported that they are working on a scripted religious drama titled "Messiah" for Netflix. The upcoming project would be set in the modern day and would depict the world's reaction to a man who appears to be performing miracles in the Middle East.
Downey also recently teamed up with The Clarion Project to produce the documentary film "Faithkeepers," which highlights the persecution of Christians in the Middle East.
At the end of 2016, Downey announced the launch of Light TV, a network that is aimed at broadcasting faith-based entertainment in top TV markets across the U.S., New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
In a 2014 interview with The Christian Post, Downey said that she believes that their projects were aimed at an audience that is often ignored by Hollywood.
Downey is currently serving as president of Lightworkers Media, and Burnett began his tenure as president of MGM Television and Digital Group last year.
