Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe became dismayed when Chris Evans revealed that his contract as Captain America will only last for two more films, which he will work on starting this April. However, a recent interview he gave indicated that he might not be done with playing the role of a superhero just yet.

In a recent interview with Collider, the actor said that continuing to take on the role of Captain America is not up to him but to the studios. He also expressed his interest in playing the character again. He said, "It's a character that I love, and it's a factory that really knows what it's doing."

He added: "The only reason it would end is 'cause my contract is up. After 'Avengers 4,' my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I'd be open to it. I love the character."

In contrast, Esquire earlier reported Evans' contract will only cover two upcoming "Captain America" films. The article also mentioned that the actor negotiated with Marvel for a six-picture deal in 2010 instead of nine, the original offer the company made. This was because Evans wanted to pursue other projects outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including trying out directing. These opportunities will not be easily available for him, considering that playing as Captain America means five months of shooting.

It is likely that his contract renewal will depend on his negotiations with the studios. Given the success of the previous "Captain America" and "Avengers" films, it would not be impossible to imagine Evans demanding a higher paycheck from Marvel for his portrayal of the superhero. However, it is also possible for the studio to reboot the film series, or else make one of the already existing characters, such as Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), take on the role of Captain America, as theorized by Cinema Blend.

Evans will next be seen donning the costume of Captain America in "Avengers: Infinity Wars," which will be released in theaters on May 4, 2018.
