"Dragon Ball Super" is building up to a new storyline called the "Universe Survival Arc," which will see warriors from 12 universes battle it out in a tournament organized by the Omni-King to save their homes.

Many colorful characters are expected to join the fray. One of the fighters joining the tournament is a female Super Saiyan, the very first in the franchise's history on the small screen.

There is not much known about this female Super Saiyan except that when she transforms, she resembles a female version of the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly.

This has many thinking that she has a connection with the character. Many fans are already calling her "Female Broly" although there is no way of knowing yet as no specific details about the new "Dragon Ball Super" arc has been revealed.

Nevertheless, it looks like "Dragon Ball Super" is finally introducing a female Super Saiyan, which the show has been missing. While there have been several female Saiyans in the series including Pan and Goku's mother, Gine, there has not been any female character who can do a Super Saiyan transformation.

There is one known female Super Saiyan in the history of "Dragon Ball" and that is the Viola from the arcade game "Dragon Ball Heroes." However, the game is not considered canon.

This "Universe Survival Arc" character, however, could be the first female Super Saiyan that's canon. More details about the mysterious fighter should be revealed soon.

Other notable characters shown in the "Dragon Ball Super" preview for the new story arc shows a God of Destruction who wears clown make-up.

Before the "Universe Survival Arc," fans will first be treated with a new "Dragon Ball Super" episode this Sunday, Jan. 29 that features the return of Goku's old enemies.

Titled "Defeating these Terrifying Enemies! Krillin's fighting spirit returns," episode 76 of "Dragon Ball Super" will see Goku and Krillin fight illusions of Frieza, Buu, Piccolo and even Vegeta.
