"Thinking Out Loud" singer Ed Sheeran had to get stitches after Britain's Princess Beatrice accidentally sliced his face with a sword as she "knighted" "You're Beautiful" singer James Blunt at a party.

Sheeran and Blunt were among the guests at a dinner party hosted by the princess at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, three miles south of Windsor Castle.

Sources who were allegedly present during the party said that the injury was inflicted when Princess Beatrice was pretending to knight Blunt. Blunt had reportedly been joking about wanting to become Sir James and Princess Beatrice granted his wish, pulling out a ceremonial sword as Blunt bent a knee.

According to The Sun, the princess accidentally swiped Sheeran's cheek as she swung the sword back, not knowing that he was behind her. She may have also misjudged the sword's weight.

"She was mortified!" a source told Us Weekly. "She genuinely thought she had disfigured his face. She was gasping and screaming and there was blood all down by his face," the insider added.

Thankfully, Sheeran remained calm. "He was like, 'It's fine, don't worry. Don't worry!' And he was kind of chuckling as he went off to get it seen to," the unnamed informant said.

"Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident," The Sun's source added.

Despite having to endure the pain of getting his cheek stitched, the singer reportedly went back to the party after leaving the hospital. The injury came to light after Sheeran posed for a photo with a fan shortly after the incident. In the photo, the 25-year-old singer indeed had a vertical gash on his cheek, an inch or so underneath his right eye.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the alleged incident.
