A critics' rave trailer for "Homeland" season 6 was recently released, and it bodes of great things ahead for fans and viewers of the acclaimed spy series.

Although the trailer shows intense snippets of last season, it also gives a glimpse of some of the things fans can expect from the upcoming installment. However, be warned that the trailer is intercut with quotes from critics and such. The trailer likewise confirms that the show's new location is New York City.

Moreover, it shows Quinn (Rupert Friend) still alive after his harrowing experience with jihadists but now a changed man. Changed in what way? Well, fans will have to tune in when the series premieres in January to find out how the traumatic ordeal changed him and his ability to connect with other people, especially Carrie (Claire Danes).

Based on the trailer, which appears below, it looks like Carrie will not be able to let go of the intelligence game completely. It will be recalled that she left the CIA in season 5 and declined Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) invitation to come back to the CIA. They appear to still be at odds with each other, but their loyalty to each other is still there, so it remains to be seen how their relationship will be coming into "Homeland" season 6.

Speaking about Carrie and Saul's relationship, Danes said both are working on repairing whatever's broken between them when Variety caught up with her during the Television Critics Association panel in August.

"There has been a split that they've been working on repairing over the course of the past couple of seasons," she told the magazine. "I think that Saul has committed himself even more fully to the agency, and Carrie rejects some fundamental principles of it. They are so profoundly bonded, that's not anything that they will be able to rid themselves of, nor would they want to. She's matured into a very different place from where he has matured to."

Earlier spoilers for "Homeland" season 6 hint that Carrie will be working in New York as an advocate for Muslim affairs. However, at the show's panel at New York's Paley Center for Media last week, Vulture quotes the actress as saying she's also there in NYC because it is where Quinn is receiving his therapy. She was quick to note, though, that instead of redeeming herself to Quinn, she will annoy him. Other than that, the 37-year-old actress refused to divulge further details about Carrie and Quinn's relationship.

As for Carrie's fractious relationship with her mentor, Saul, Patinkin said Saul's belief in Carrie's capability to fight terrorism remains strong even if she doesn't want to have anything to do with the CIA anymore. The 63-year-old actor told Variety that Saul is in a "prayerful state" that he will be able to convince Carrie to give the CIA another chance because she's destined to be there.

"Homeland" season 6 premieres Jan. 15, Sunday, at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
