Niantic's location-based, augmented reality game "Pokemon GO" has caught the fancy of Pokemon fans worldwide. While some have rejoiced over their success in catching them, as the game invites its players to do, many have despaired over ever finding some elusive kinds.

Luckily for those who have only gained marginal success, they can follow in the footsteps of the more sure-footed among Pokemon catchers, like one Reddit user who compiled a list of rare and exclusive Pokemon and the habitats they frequent.

A complete list of all the original 151 Pokemon can also be found, including around 15 of the rarest on "Pokemon GO." While the rarity and exclusivity of these virtual creatures depend on the area of the player, it has also been found that every one of these has a certain type of area it prefers to stay in.

But while this seems to be the general rule, some Pokemon have also been found outside their frequented habitats. Knowing then the preferred locations that these hard-to-catch Pokemon stay in can increase the chances of coming across and eventually catching them.

For instance, a rare dragon-type Pokemon known as the Dratini and a water-and-ice-type, Lapras, favor places that are associated with water, such as piers, lakes and rivers, as well as the immediate surrounding areas like parks and those that have fountains or pools of water. For those who have been working to no avail, nest locations of Dratini have also been mapped out.

Magnemite can be found where supply of electricity is high, like power plants and industrial areas, buildings and railroad track, as it is electricity- and steel-associated. Chansey is most often found in health-related spaces such as clinics, pharmacies, and hospitals. Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan frequent areas that have to do with exercise, like gyms and parks.

Snorlax has reportedly been found near water, though not reliably so. It is not clear yet which habitat it prefers as it is one of the rarest found so far.

Porygons have so far been through egg-hatching, being normal-type, meaning it does not have a habitat preference. It is one of the most random of Pokemon.

Some Pokemon can be very difficult to get hold of or are exclusive only to certain regions that it is far better to hatch them from 10km or 5km eggs, such as Farfetch'd, Kangashkan, and Mr. Mime.

"Pokemon GO" can be played on iOS and Android devices.
