Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 release date, specs news 2016: Qualcomm partners with Samsung to create processor

The recent Galaxy Note 7 incidents must have been a major setback for South Korea-based tech giant Samsung, but this gives it more reason to innovate and upgrade its devices. Samsung is venturing into a next-generation processor which could be a turning point for the company in 2017.

According to sources, Samsung and Qualcomm have announced the release of the upcoming Snapdragon processor which could be available in the first quarter of 2017. Although there have not been many details about the product with regards to its configuration and specs, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset could power the next Samsung Galaxy S8. Although it is not confirmed, the probability is huge since the new chipset is the result of a Samsung and Qualcomm partnership. The processor is reported to have been manufactured using the South Korean company's 10-nanometer FinFET process.

However, other reports suggest that the Snapdragon 835 announcement might have nipped the release of Snapdragon 830 in the bud. Reports also say that the accessory manufacturer in China confirmed the existence of the Snapdragon 830 chip, but again, it has not been officially confirmed by the companies.

In a press release, Keith Kressin, senior vice president of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. says that because of the 10-nm process node, the Snapdragon 835 processor is expected to provide greater power efficiency, increase performance, and improve user-experience for the next generation of mobile devices.

Jong Shik Yoon, executive vice president of Foundry Business Team at Samsung Electronics, also says that working with Qualcomm Technologies is an opportunity for the production of Snapdragon 835. He further states that the collaboration with Qualcomm is an important milestone, signifying confidence for Samsung. The press release confirms that the Snapdragon 835 is currently in production and will be ready for shipment in the first half of 2017.
