Although Fuller has parted ways with the TV series, the current progression of the production has put everyone at ease.

Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" has signed up for the forthcoming series. Reports said that Yeoh will portray a Federation captain in "Star Trek Discovery." However, Variety reported that the actress might not be assigned to the lead role, unlike what some reports are claiming. The publication suggested that the studio is not looking for a big name to portray the part because they would rather bring in a fresh face.

A report by Deadline claimed that the actress will not pilot the main ship in "Star Trek Discovery." Rumor has it that Yeoh will be a captain named Han Bo who will be piloting the Starfleet ship called Shenzhou. Though the actress isn't expected to play the main role, she will reportedly be an important character to the series.

Furthermore, "Star Trek Discovery" will be set 10 years before the original storyline of the franchise. The lead character will not be the pilot of a ship, but a lieutenant commander of the Federation craft, which is called Discovery. Though the studio hasn't officially named the lead character or its actor, it is believed that the main role will have the title "Number One."

Since the latest casting news have not been confirmed by the production team, fans of the franchise should treat the recent reports as speculation until proven otherwise.

The studio has yet to announce the specific release date for the series, but "Star Trek: Discovery" is expected to air sometime in May 2017.
