'Supergirl' season 2 cast news, premiere: 'Teen Wolf's' Tyler Hoechlin cast as Superman; Premiere date out for The CW's latest superhero series

"Supergirl' season 2 will not only be premiering in a new home but also revealing the face behind Kara's famous cousin whom fans have only "met" through text and instant messages he exchanged with his cousin.

Tyler Hoechlin, who played alpha male Derek Hale on MTV's "Teen Wolf," will be trading his fangs for a cape when he suits up as Superman in the second season of "Supergirl." He was cast a few days after it was confirmed that Superman would be appearing in the first two episodes of the series.

Fans know that Supergirl's entry to Earth was prompted by the need to protect her cousin, Superman. Nevertheless, by the time she got here, her cousin was already leading a double life, as Clark Kent the journalist and Superman, Earth's greatest hero. It would be interesting to see how Superman interacts with his cousin and whether he could coach Supergirl in the ways and means of balancing her lives as superhero and "regular" girl.

There is no word yet as to the extent of Hoechlin's Superman character or if he would be seen as Clark Kent on the series. However, when he spoke to the Daily Mail while promoting "Everybody Wants Some," the 28-year-old actor said he was more keen in finding out Clark's sense of humor, which fans have been treated to in "Supergirl" season 1, than delving on comparisons between him and other actors who played Superman before him.

"I never try to compare and contrast performances because it's such an iconic character already. Superman is Superman so I'm just going to try to carry on the tradition of that and play that part. I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world. I'm just excited to find out Clark's sense of humor."

Fans are hoping they would see a lighter side of Superman especially when he starts interacting with his cousin. After all, the digital dealings they had before seemed to imply that the cousins have a good relationship.

Meanwhile, the series' executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg, shared that they have long wanted to work with Hoechlin.

"We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character," he said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

According to Screen Rant, "Supergirl" season 2 will premiere Monday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
