There has been massive speculation surrounding "Captain America: Civil War" as it will see Steve Rogers/Captain America played by Chris Evans go up against Tony Stark/Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr.

This is something that has never happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the film starting production, it will be interesting to see how the events covered in the comics are translated into the big screen.

In its announcement marking the beginning of production on "Captain America: Civil War," Marvel outlined the synopsis of the film. It said the action will take place right after the events in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

As the world recovers from the destruction left behind by Ultron and its robotic army, the Avengers backed up by new team members will offer their help to protect humanity.

However, an incident will compel the U.S. government to force the superheroes to answer to a governing body. Iron Man agrees and supports this new policy but Captain America will take an opposing view. This causes a rift among the Avengers who will split into two factions. A new villain then arrives and throws himself into the mix.

As for the new members in team Avengers, Marvel revealed that Martin Freeman who starred as Bilbo Baggins in the "The Hobbit" will be playing a yet unnamed character. Other confirmed new members in the cast include Chadwick Boseman who will play T'Challa/Black Panther, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo who will play the part of Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, and William Hurt as General Thaddeus Ross.

From the previous film in the franchise "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Sebastian Stan will return as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.

Returning to the film are the original Avengers including Scarlett Johansson who plays Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, and Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine.

There are also rumors that Spider-Man would be joining the Marvel film. A new actor is reportedly being sought for the part.

Joe and Anthony Russo will be taking the director's chair and will steer the film's cast and its creative team before the movie is released on May 6, 2016.
