iPhone 7s release date, specs rumors: Apple may introduce 5-inch iPhone with vertical dual-lens camera in 2017
A lot of tech enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the iPhone 8. It is touted to be a revolutionary device as its launch will coincide with the flagship smartphone's 10th anniversary. However, it was also made known that Apple is also working on the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus, upgrades to the devices launched last September. Now, reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is looking to add one more model — a 5-inch iPhone 7s.
In a new report from Japanese website Macotakara, a Taiwan supplier has revealed that the 5-inch iPhone 7s will sit in between the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are expected to be modest upgrades over the recently released iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The 5-inch model will reportedly feature similar specs to the two other smartphones. Like the iPhone 7 Plus, it will also have a dual-camera setup. However, its design has been tweaked to feature a vertical design. This could be due to the smaller size of the device. Aside from the camera, the addition of several other features are said to still be in consideration.
While the authenticity of this latest development cannot be guaranteed, it is relevant to note that this isn't the first time that a 5-inch model for 2017 has been talked about. Back in October, Nikkei Asian Review made mention of the three upcoming models in a report. A source told the publication that the models will also feature a new design.
"Apple has tentatively decided that all the 5.5-inch, 5-inch and 4.7-inch models will have glass backs, departing from metal casings adopted by the current iPhones, and Biel and Lens are likely to be providing all the glass backs for the new iPhones next year," said an industry source.
Unfortunately, at this time, no other information about the 5-inch iPhone 7s model has been released.
Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhones in September 2017.
