'Metal Gear Survive' news: Konami to release stealth co-op game next year
At the annual Gamescom, a trade fair for video games, held last Aug. 17 to 21 in Cologne Germany, video game developer Konami announced its newest game "Metal Gear Survive."
This will be the first game in the "Metal Gear" franchise that will not be developed by original franchise creator Hideo Kojima, according to The Bitbag. It is expected to launch next year.
"Metal Gear Survive" is an action-adventure stealth online survival game that is best played with a team of players. Everyone is curious as to why the developers turned the game into a co-operative multiplayer. Euro Gamer theorized that the team might consist of different classes of soldiers - healer, tank and support to name a few.
The trailer showed that "Metal Gear Survive" is set after the events in Ground Zeroes. The transcript released by Euro Gamer revealed Konami brand manager Richard Jones' announcement that "the mother base that had been built up during the Peacewalker storyline gets sabotaged from within and destroyed; that all collapses into the sea."
The players get sucked into a wormhole which will bring them to a post-apocalyptic world where the land is plagued by alien-like creatures. Along with the main character, debris from the mother base gets sucked in as well as other characters from the game.
The brand manager revealed that in order for a player to survive, the player will need to work with other members of the team.
More importantly, the trailer also revealed that the game will continue to provide players with highly advanced weapons. Players will be provided with an array of weapons which they can experiment with and "use creatively." Jones clarified that the co-op feature will not be the only highlight of the game. Since the "Metal Gear" franchise is best known for its stealth, gamers can expect "Metal Gear Survive" to have that feature as well.
According to Jones, the developers have been working on combining stealth with team play. Konami is said to be developing a gameplay that will allow and enhance the combination of stealth and co-op.
Though Jones revealed a good deal of information about the upcoming game, Konami has yet to reveal important details about the game such as its price or its launch date. Hopefully, the video game developer will release more information in the months to come.
