The CW is yet to announce an official premiere date for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, but it has been confirmed that before filming officially begins for the series, its stars will head to California for the annual San Diego Comic-Con. Now if speculations are proven correct, fans could expect a reunion between ex-couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder.

According to Hollywood Hills, the show is set to have a Question and Answer panel session at the SDCC on July 23. The panel will take place in Ballroom 20 at 11 a.m. PST. There is no word yet on which cast members are expected to take part in the panel, but just a few days ago, Somerhalder has affirmed his attendance.

Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Zach Roerig are expected to attend, too, since the show's main cast members are usually always present at the SDCC. Showrunner Julie Plec will be there, as well, and there's a possibility that Nina Dobrev, who is said to be coming back to the show, will take part, too. The report further said that new spoilers for the upcoming season would be teased at the event.

There are rumors that Dobrev's exit from the show has caused viewership to drop significantly. Now that she might be on her way back, the production team is hoping that things would get back to normal.

Meanwhile, Movie News Guide said that Dobrev would be playing the role of Sybil when she returns to the series. It remains to be seen if Sybil has anything to do with the voice (the one that sounded like Elena Gilbert's) the lured Damon (Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) into the vault in the season 7 finale.

It's possible that Sybil, whom TV Line described as an immortal with the capacity to use enough influence and power to control others, will come disguised as Elena. Being the enigmatic creature that she is, Sybil could successfully seduce Damon into the dark side, to be an evil version of himself. Apparently, manipulating people for fun and glory gives Sybil the high, but at this point, it's too early to tell if the mysterious character is actually a friend or a foe.
