'Agent Carter' season 3 renewal update: Fans hope for a Netflix pickup
The journey of the fearsome and esteemed Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) ends in the second season of her titular show but fans believe that "Agent Carter" season 3 should happen.
A fan took the initiative and started a petition for the show to be revived by Netflix. As of this writing, there are over 91,000 fans who signed are one with the idea of "Agent Carter" season 3. The petition needs 150,000 signatures all in all.
ABC chose to exclude "Agent Carter" season 3 from its lineup (as well as a lot more of its shows like "Castle" and "The Muppets"), and it is believed it is because of the decreasing viewership.
As seen in the data collected by TV Series Finale, in season 2 of "Agent Carter," the number of viewers reduced by the thousands each week. Some critics also say the quality also declined as the show progressed.
Although fans are up for "Agent Carter" season 3, it is unclear if Netflix will be. However, it is possible for the streaming company to be its new home, especially because it has other Marvel series going on right now and "Agent Carter" will fit right in.
Netflix has successful shows focusing on Marvel heroes Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Two more centered on Luke Cage and Iron First will soon follow and all these characters will eventually be rounded up in the "Defenders" mini-series.
It is clear that Netflix has big plans for its Marvel TV universe as well, with "The Punisher" spinoff also now in development. But more than that, "Agent Carter" season 3 is believed to be a possibility in Netflix because of its history of picking up shows cancelled by their home networks.
When AETV pulled the plug on the crime drama "Longmire" after three seasons, the company picked it up for a fourth season and has renewed it for season 5.
Although the petition will get all the signatures it needs and Netflix agrees, the challenge now is getting Atwell back to play Agent Carter again. The actress has just signed up for ABC's upcoming series "Conviction."
If she wants to reprise her Agent Carter role on top of a lead role in the abovementioned drama, it will take a while before "Agent Carter" season 3 finds its way to the small screen.
