Marvel fans are excited that Ghost Rider will be making an appearance in the next season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and it looks like the show will be altering the origin story of Robbie Reyes.

According to TV Line, executive producer Jed Whedon says, "We can't say much about what we're going to do with [Robbie Reyes'] origin, but we are doing our own spin on it." He also goes on to say that he doesn't want anybody who's read the comic to know what's going to happen.

According to ComicBook.com, Robbie Reyes' (Gabriel Luna) new origin will have close ties to Daisy Johnson's (Chloe Bennet) father, Cal, who was played by Kyle MacLachlan. Cal is also another character in the comics with the alter ego, Mr. Hyde. In the new Ghost Rider's origin story, Robbie Reyes' transformation involved gangland activity and a connection with the pill cocktail that turns Calvin Zabo into Mr. Hyde.

When TV Line noted that viewers would like to see the return of Kyle MacLachan's Cal, Whedon replied, "So would we."

Fans are actually very happy to see Ghost Rider return to the Marvel Universe, even if it is just an appearance in the TV series. Since then, the last time fans saw Ghost Rider in live-action was when he was Johnny Blaze (played by Nicholas Cage). Those movies never got the critical praise that Marvel movies now get, but it's high time viewers get to see the return of "The Spirit of Vengeance."

The fourth season doesn't just have Robbie Reyes as the new character. Other characters are set to make their premiere this season, with Jason O'Mara playing the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Parminder Nagra will play a politician with an anti-Inhuman agenda (much like the "X-Men's" Senator Kelly).

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 is set to premiere on Sept. 20 on ABC.
