The synopsis for the fourth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has been released by Marvel and ABC, and it sheds light on what happened during previous seasons and what to expect this incoming season four.

According to Geek Tyrant, the show will portray S.H.I.E.L.D. as a legitimate government organization once more. Back in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," S.H.I.E.L.D. was torn apart by the revelation that HYDRA has infiltrated the organization and has been growing within S.H.I.E.L.D. for years. Season four will see the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. operating under the law, and they will have a new director (set to be played by Jason O'Mara) taking over the reins.

Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) will be demoted to agent status, and his team will be in charge of finding more of the enhanced beings (Inhumans) that have been popping up all over the Marvel Universe. Coulson will be paired with Mack (Henry Simmons), and they will also be in search of former ally Daisy (Chloe Bennet) a.k.a. Quake, who left to pursue a personal redemption mission.

Daisy is also going to have a hard time on her own since the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director has it out for her and wants her to be taken down. It also doesn't help that Daisy is being blamed by the world for taking down banks and public bridges.

In the meantime, Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) is going to train a new specialist strike team. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) continue to develop their relationship, but complications arise due to Simmons' promotion and her relationship with the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

Meanwhile, Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna), or Ghost Rider, is set to "roar into the lives of Agent Coulson and the team." It is not clear whether he will be siding with S.H.I.E.L.D. or doing his own thing, but fans have always been sure that Ghost Rider is a force of good.
