Apple Watch Series 2 | Apple

The smartwatch that Apple fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Apple Watch Series 2 was unveiled at the company's highly anticipated keynote event in San Francisco. And just as expected, it is very similar to the first-generation watch.

Reports also detailed that despite the similarities, there are notable changes as well as improvements and upgrades to the new smartwatch model. An emphasized feature is its waterproof capabilities.

While the original watch was splash-proof, the second-generation can now allow users to swim in the pool or ocean while wearing it. Apple executive Jeff Williams said the watch is "swim-proof."

"You can wear it whether you're swimming or surfing or just doing that cannonball," Williams said. The watch is apparently "water resistant to 50 meters." Apple made it waterproof by redesigning the speaker so that it has a mechanism that pushes out water.

Aside from its impressive waterproof feature, the Watch Series 2 is equipped with the new S2 chip with a dual-core processor. This makes the device work up to 50 percent faster. It also comes with a new GPU that provides twice the graphics performance. It is also made with a brighter display for more visibility in the sunlight. Moreover, the device comes with a built-in GPS for better fitness and location tracking.

For those who complained about the sync-up system, not much has been changed. As noted in a report, users still have to keep their watches synced to their iPhones in order to be able to do more like perform data-heavy operations.

Fortunately, with the built-in GPS, users can run or hike without having to carry their phone with them anymore.

Another difference of the original and the new version is the thickness of the latter. Apple has also built the Watch Series 2 with a glossy white ceramic body.

The Apple Watch Series 2 is now available for pre-order from the company's online storefront and through the Apple Store app. The price starts at $369.
