'Arrow' season 5 spoilers, plot news: Laurel not returning, but another familiar face might

During his appearance on "Larry King Now," Stephen Amell, lead star of "Arrow," shot down the rumors about Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) returning from the dead in the future.
Asked by host Larry King if there's a chance for the Black Canary to soar high once again in "Arrow" season 5 or in any future seasons of the show, the Canadian actor simply replied with a big "No."
Cassidy's character was killed off in episode 18 of "Arrow" season 4. "Eleven Fifty-Nine." Her death was first teased in a rare flash-forward scene in the premiere of the current season, although every Team Arrow member was a possible target at that time.
It was built up as a big reveal in the last episodes of the season. The long wait resulted to tumultuous amount of speculations and theories as well as leaks.
In the end, it was Black Canary who had to pay the price as Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) impaled an arrow through her side during a mission she declared will be her last for her alter ego, in lieu of a bigger job in the courtroom awaiting her normal self.
Her death pushed Oliver, Diggle and Felicity to blame themselves for the painful casualty but it ultimately reunited them and Thea to end Darhk's evils once and for all.
Although the Black Canary rendered Team Arrow short, there is a fresh rumor about another hero returning to the fold. According to a new report, Colton Haynes announced his return in "Arrow" season 5 as Arsenal.
He reportedly revealed the exciting news during the Justice Squad Convention in France. "I get to come back on a few episodes of Arrow next year," Haynes allegedly said, as quoted by a fan in attendance.
There's no way of knowing for sure he will be in "Arrow" season 5, but the team sure need a hand with Black Canary gone. Casting for the new season has started as well, so he might have been invited to return.
Interestingly, Haynes recently opened up about the reason behind leaving "Arrow," which he said had to do with mental health.
"Arrow" season 5 is expected to premiere later this year. "Arrow" season 4 returns on The CW this Thursday, May 18 at 8 p.m. EDT for its penultimate episode "Lost in the Flood."
