Asus Transformer 3 release date, specs, price: Asus' new 2-in-1 rivals Microsoft's Surface, starts at $799

Asus has unveiled a line of new 2-in-1 PCs that very closely resembles Microsoft's Surface tablet series.
Just like the Microsoft Surface, which the company touts "the tablet that can replace your laptop," the Asus Transformer 3, which Asus dubs "the mobile PC, redefined," features a touchscreen, a kickstand, and a portable keyboard.
Along with the Transformer 3, there are two other 2-in-1 PCs in the new Transformer line-up. The Transformer 3 is the mid-range option, with the Transformer Mini being the lightest and cheapest model and the Transformer 3 Pro the most advanced of the trio.
The new line of 2-in-1 PCs was unveiled by the Taiwanese multinational company during its Zenvolution press event at Computex 2016 on May 30.
Aimed at redefining how PCs are used, the Asus Transformer 3 was made for ultimate mobility, expandability and convenience. At just 6.9 mm (0.27 inches) thick and 695 g (1.5 lbs) light, the Transformer 3 actually has "smaller dimensions than a sheet of A4 paper."
However, its ultra-slim and compact size doesn't mean that the PC compromises on power and screen size. The Transformer 3 offers nine hours of battery life and features a 12.9-inch 3K display with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels.
The powerful new PC runs on 7th generation Intel Core processors and carries up to 8 GB RAM. It allows for up to 512 GB SSD storage and has a Thunderbolt 3 port for ultra-fast data transfers. There are four high quality Harman Kardon speakers, a detachable Asus Transformer Sleeve Keyboard, a two-position display stand, and a glass-covered touchpad.
According to Engadget, the Transformer 3 starts at $799 while the Transformer 3 Pro starts at $999. Meanwhile, the Transformer Mini, which Asus says is the world's lightest 2-in-1 PC, starts at $349.
Asus has yet to announce the official release date for the Transformer 3, Transformer 3 Pro, and Transformer Mini.
