'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers, plot news: Norma returns as a figment; upcoming to episodes to be crazier
Fans who enjoyed the last four seasons of the psychological horror-thriller "Bates Motel" will have to brace themselves as the series is coming to an end. Season 5 is set to premiere next year, and just as promised, it's going to close with Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) becoming a full psycho.

Fans may recall that Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) died in in the season 4 finale. Her death was caused by none other than Norman's psychotic actions wherein he turned up the furnace and closed all the vents in the house. He was also supposed to kill himself as he calmly laid down next to his mother.
But Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) found them and rescued them. Norman survived but Norma didn't make it. And now that Norman's beloved mother is gone, he is having a hard time accepting her death that he dug up her body from her grave and brought her home.
Spoilers say that season 5 will have Norman transform from creepy young boy to a full-fledged psycho who will be imagining his mother as if she is still alive. This basically means that Norma will still be back but as a figment of Norman's imagination.
Farmiga spoke to Zap2It during the San Diego Comic-Con last month and shared a little bit about her character for the upcoming season. She said that Norma will be very different as she will move and behave according to how Norman will think of her. She will be singing, dancing, and playing the piano.
"I think there's going to be more liberties and lunacy, given the fact that she is a figment ... a ghost that he's creating," Farmiga said.
Norma's return from death will also bring a series of psychologically weird incidents in Bates Motel. Furthermore, fans should expect to see some storyline going on for Dylan Massett (Max Thieriot) and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke) as the show have something plotted out for them, as noted in TVLine.
"Bates Motel" season 5 will premiere early in 2017.
