'Bates Motel' season 5 to cast Rihanna as Marion Crane; Vera Farmiga returns as Norma in Norman's head

Viewers who have loyally followed the horror television series "Bates Motel" from season 1 will have to say goodbye to the show as it will be airing its final season soon. The producers of the "Psycho" prequel confirmed at Comic-Con that the series' season 5 will be indeed the last.

But before it will be departing network A&E, the series promises that it will be a final season that fans will remember and they are going to make that happen by casting pop star Rihanna to play the character Marion Crane, which actress Janet Leigh played in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic film.

As reported on Independent, Rihanna was tapped to play the role after the production found out that the "Work" singer revealed that she is a fan of the show. Executive producer Carlton Cuse spilled that Rihanna's casting was planned for five years.

"I read this article in which she said she was a fan of Bates Motel [so] we asked and she said yes," Cuse explained. "It was awesome. We're really excited about it. It really feels very much like the version of the character that is different from the movie," he added.

For those who are not in the loop yet, Marion checked in to Bates Hotel. However, she was unable to get out of the place after Norman killed her in the shower. Dressed in his mother Norma's clothes, Norman stabbed Marion to death. It's still to be known though if the series will follow the iconic shower death scene.

In other news, "Bates Motel" season 5 will still be having Norma (Vera Farmiga) around despite the fact that she was killed in season 4 by her own son by filling their house with carbon monoxide. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the fifth installment will continue to explore Norman's (Freddie Highmore) mental condition getting worse than ever with Norma playing out in Norman's head.

This is the season where fans will see more of the version of Norman from the "Psycho" film. "Bates Motel" season 5 will start filming by fall and it will premiere sometime in 2017.
