'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Chuck's fate undetermined without 'Breaking Bad' roots, show to go beyond parent series?

What will be Chuck\'s (Michael McKean) fate in \"Better Call Saul\" season 3? | Ursula Coyote/AMC

Although fans know where "Better Call Saul" season 3 and beyond is going as far as "Breaking Bad" goes, viewers have no idea what the titular character's brother Chuck (Michael McKean) will be.

Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) big bro did not appear in the spin-off's parent series so figuring out how he ends up will be tricky. McKean himself only has little to say about what his cunning character's fate will be in "Better Call Saul" and beyond.

"I'm curious, but it's not an overwhelming curiosity. If I open the script that tells me where he went, I'll try to act like I knew all along, but I have a feeling I'll be kind of astonished," the actor told Gold Derby.

Speaking about his "Better Call Saul" character, who actually put Jimmy in serious trouble as the latter tries his best to do good with the waning hint of righteousness he has left, McKean admittedly knows Chuck is a top-notch schemer.

"Chuck is pretty clever. He knows how to manipulate and here he manipulates by looking helpless," the actor said. It's how he got his little brother to talk in the previous season of "Better Call Saul."

Fans will get to see more of his schemes in "Better Call Saul" season 3 as Jimmy slowly transforms into his far more cunning "Breaking Bad" alter-ego Saul Goodman.

Unlike Chuck, Jimmy's fate in the series is already mapped out courtesy of the original series. However, "Better Call Saul creator Peter Gould has teased the possibility of going beyond what the series showed as far as Jimmy's future.

"I don't think anything is predetermined," he said via Den of Geek. "We see 'Gene' [Saul's fake name] in Omaha, Nebraska, and to me that hints that maybe there's more to the story after Breaking Bad, so we'll see," he continued.

"Better Call Saul" season 3 will start filming this September. Although there's the prospect of moving past "Breaking Bad," the new season will have plenty of hat tips to the show including the return of Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito).

"Better Call Saul" season 3 premieres early next year on AMC.
