Canada-based smartphone manufacturer Blackberry may have been popular for its QWERTY-keypad handsets back in the day but right now they're focusing on releasing Android smartphones.

Following the release of the BlackBerry Priv last year, the company is said to be busy developing new models, including the highly rumored handset called the DTEK50 or BlackBerry Neon.

Details about the said device are scarce for now but new leaks have surfaced ahead of its launch. According to 9 to 5 Google, the BlackBerry Neon appears similar with the Alcatel IDOL 4. The purported reason for the closeness in appearance is because the device is manufactured by TCL.

But unlike the Priv, the Neon is a mid-range smartphone. GSM Arena noted that the device, which is also referred to as the BlackBerry Hamburg, is rumored to feature a 5.2-inch display with 1080p resolution. The upcoming handset is also said to be equipped under the hood with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor paired with 3 GB of RAM.

Moreover, it's said to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. The expected native storage capacity is 16 GB which can be expanded further via microSD card slot.

And just like the Alcatel IDOL 4, the Neon is teased to have stereo speakers on both the front and the back. A noted difference, though, is that it seems like the BlackBerry variant will not have the same glass build of the Alcatel model. The Neon may be sporting a carbon fiber design instead.

Express reported that BlackBerry is claiming the device to be the "world's most secure smartphone" because of the improved protection from the company. The device will also be running with Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

There is no release date yet but an announcement is expected to happen soon. Also, the price of the device is expected to be budget-friendly considering the revealed alleged specs.
