'Bones' season 12 cast updates: Final season will have guest star from 'The Big Bang Theory;' details on the series finale

Though some fans are saddened that "Bones" is already in its final season, it doesn't mean that the show will be holding back when it comes to casting some popular names when they're down to the home stretch. Oscar-nominated actress June Squibb (Sheldon's Meemaw in "The Big Bang Theory") will be having an appearance in the show's 12th season along with Ed Asner and Hal Holbrook.
According to TV Line, the three veteran actors will be appearing in the season's third episode. Squibb will reportedly play a resident in a retirement home who has a legendary temper. It's very likely that Asner and Holbrook will be playing residents in the retirement home as well, considering their age.
There were also rumors going around that the show's final episode will have a 2-hour run time. When asked about the series finale, TV Line reporter Michael Ausiello says, "As of now it's just a one-hour episode, but, you never know — Fox could schedule the penultimate episode on the same night and call it a 'two-hour Bones finale event!'"
In the meantime, co-showrunner Jonathan Collier is expressing his hopes that series creator Hart Hanson will return to write (or co-write) the season finale. Collier says that Hanson has been "very involved" with the series. He also says that Hanson was the best person to inherit a show from because after he gave the new showrunners his blessing, Hanson was still available for any questions or concerns about the show.
Collier also took some time to talk about where the show is going. He says that Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) and Cam's (Tamara Taylor) nuptials will be a quiet affair. "I think [we had our] big wedding with Brennan and Booth... So let's just say that it's going to be exciting and different," said Collier.
The final season of "Bones" will air in 2017 on Fox.
