'Borderlands 3' release date news: Expected 2017; gamers share expectations
Fans were disappointed during last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) when Gearbox made no announcement for "Borderlands 3." However, with the "Battleborn" DLCs out of the way, Gearbox and 2K can now focus on the dystopian shooter game that players have come to know and love.
"Borderlands 3" was announced back in April by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. According to him, "Battleborn's" art director was set to work on the next "Borderlands" project after their work with "Battleborn."
"Borderlands 2" came out back in 2012, and it has been praised for its unique world and aesthetic. Dozens of fanart, fanfiction, and cosplay have surfaced online, proving that the "Borderlands" universe has earned quite the following.
The most recent "Borderlands" game that players can get their hands on is "Tales from the Borderlands: A Telltale Game Series" which came out in 2014. Yet, though the game presents its own story in the world of Pandora, it doesn't really fit in the same genre of shooter games like "Borderlands" and "Borderlands 2."
As of the moment, "Borderlands 3" still needs a lot of work done on it, with Pitchford saying that the game will be designed to the newer consoles that have come out, such as PS4 and Xbox One.
In a blog post on Games Radar, fans have shared about what they want to get out of a new "Borderlands" game. The post cited the "Fallout" game series, which aside from the ability to craft weapons, has also given "Borderlands" fans the desire to have a "base" of some sort to keep weapons or trophies around.
Fans also expect to get a whole new bunch of NPCs that truly make the game memorable. Aside from Moxxy, Ellie, Hammerlock and Tiny Tina, Handsome Jack was one of the most memorable video game villains that players have had to encounter. If Gearbox can deliver another villain on a par with Jack, then players would be in for a real treat.
"Borderlands 3" is currently in development and is expected to release in 2017.
