"Captain Marvel" will be Marvel Studios' first movie helmed by a female superhero, and during the San Diego Comic-Con last month, Brie Larson was announced to play the role of Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel. Though the film is yet to find a director, Larson has tweeted a photo of herself researching about her next role as one of the Marvel Universe's most powerful heroes.

The book that Larson is reading is, reportedly, "Captain Marvel Vol. 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More." Carol Danvers has had a very rich history in the comics, and some even consider her to be the Wonder Woman of the Marvel Universe.

Initially adopting the name Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers got her powers for the Kree alien who was the first Captain marvel (who was a man). Over the years, Danvers — as Ms. Marvel — has shared numerous adventures with heroes from all over the Marvel Universe until 2012 where she eventually took up the mantle of Captain Marvel. Interestingly enough, she is the leader of the side opposing Tony Stark in Marvel Comics' "Civil War 2."

It is also interesting to note that after Danvers became Captain Marvel, her moniker as Ms. Marvel has been taken up by Kamala Khan, a Pakistani Muslim teenager who is a big fan of Captain Marvel. Kamala has shapeshifting powers and is the first Muslim superhero for Marvel.

Fans are all positive with the choice to have Brie Larson play Carol Danvers. The actress recently received an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in "Room." She is also no stranger to comic book roles as she played Scott Pilgrim's ex, Envy Adams in the movie adaptation of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."

"Captain Marvel" is in the early stages of pre-production and is set to come out in 2019.
