'Castle' season 8 finale spoilers, plot news: Beckett gets killed in pursuit of LokSat?

Kate Beckett's (Stana Katic) send-off will take place in the "Castle" season 8 finale titled "Crossfire." From what has been said by the executive producers of the show, her farewell might be bloody.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Alexi Hawley teased that death is always part of "Castle." As for Beckett or Castle (Nathan Fillon) being on the receiving end, he simply said that "there's definitely danger."

"Their lives are in jeopardy pretty much from [the] jump. What we wanted to do was keep pulling the rug out from under them. Things get dangerous very fast," Hawley explained.

"Ultimately, it's a back-and-forth between being the hunted and being the hunters all the way through the finale," the executive producer continued.

In the "Castle" season 8 finale, the mysterious LokSat, which the season has been building towards, will demonstrate its full power. This power might get Beckett killed.

"Castle" co-executive producer Terrence Paul Winter said in a previous chat with Entertainment Weekly that taking down the LokSat will take more than just Castle and Beckett.

They will need all the help they can get. The likes of Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Hayley (Toks Olagundoye) will rally around too. Since the LokSat sounds like something not to underestimate, will Beckett die trying to eradicate the big bad?

Ahead of season 9, ABC announced Katic's exit. Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner and Beckett's friend Lanie Parish, is also leaving the show. The "Castle" season 8 finale is expected to make sense of the departure.

Winter promised that all the dangling threads from the previous episodes and seasons will be no more when the eighth season of the crime drama wraps up. The shows intends on wrapping the season up with a bang.

"We wanted to turn it to 11, so to speak, and really challenge the characters and our actors and our director. We really gave them a dynamic episode that's scary, it's funny, and it's emotional. That's the finale â€” we figured we'd go big," Hawley stated.

"Castle" season 8 finale "Crossfire" will air on May 16 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC. The penultimate episode "Hell to Pay" will air on May 9.
