'Civilization VI' news: New trailer released; say hello to Queen Victoria

Sid Meier's "Civilization VI" is an upcoming strategy game by Firaxis Games, and it is set to come out Oct. 21. A new trailer has also been released, highlighting the civilization of England, ruled by a young Queen Victoria. In previous "Civilization" games, Queen Elizabeth was the one wearing the crown.
In the trailer, it is apparent that the characters in the game would sport the same cartoonish look of the previous games; the developers say that big changes are very unlikely due to divisive reaction from fans.
The trailer also showcases the different unique features that players can expect England to have. There will be new units and buildings, as well as new gaming mechanics like Sea Dogs, British Museum, and red Coats, all in the name of giving "Civilization" players a different experience.
Ed Beach, lead designer of the game, said in an interview with Eurogamer that the development team was very concerned about the readability of the upcoming game. "That's the big reason we've gone for a more stylized look. There's like 30 or 40 different things that can be on a tile right now and being able to quickly identify what they are is important," Beach said.
Another game feature, the District system, will also be present in the game. This feature allows players to build their cities however they want and decide on what products their civilization specializes on. "In 'Civ IV' we had these blobs of cities," said art director Brian Busatti, according to The Verge. "If you had a temple in there, you had to really search for it. It was a cool visual aspect, but it didn't promote gameplay," he added.
Fans can only wait until they can get a taste of this new "Civilization" game when it comes out on Oct. 21.
