'Criminal Minds' season 12 spoilers, cast news 2016: Thomas Gibson suspended from series after kicking a producer

Police procedural crime drama series "Criminal Minds" encountered some behind-the-scenes drama after actor Thomas Gibson allegedly hurt a crew member.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Gibson was suspended from the CBS series due to a physical altercation with a writer-producer. He allegedly kicked one of the writers in the shin during a conflict over the show's creative direction.
He recently spoke to the publication about the incident saying that he regretted that such moment happened. "There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement," Gibson said. "I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will," he continued.
Reports say that his suspension is just one of his punishments. He will be suspended for at least one episode, although it may be increased to two episodes. His chance of directing any future episodes is also going to be diminished.
Apparently, this isn't Gibson's first time to have caused some trouble over at the set. Gibson reportedly had a physical incident with an assistant director some years back. It's even said that due to that past occurrence, Gibson was sent to an anger management class.
"Criminal Minds" season 12 is currently in production. However, Gibson's future in the show is still to be scrutinized. It's also not known when Gibson will be allowed to return to work.
In other news, Deadline detailed that Aisha Tyler, who plays recurring character psychologist Dr. Tara Lewis, has been promoted to series regular for the show's season 12. The upcoming season will pick up from the events of the previous season finale where Hotch was arrested in his home in front of his son for suspected conspiracy.
A thrilling plot is also on the way as the BAU will be handling a major issue—a planned prison break by 13 serial killers. "Criminal Minds" season 12 will start airing on Sept. 28 on CBS.
