'Daredevil' season 3 renewed or canceled update: Kevin Smith to direct? Show's return still up in the air

Netflix hasn't renewed "Daredevil" for season 3 yet, but fans aren't worried about the show's future considering its stellar second season, which ultimately resulted in a spin-off centering on antagonist "The Punisher."

In fact, comic book writer and filmmaker Kevin Smith already wants to direct an episode of "Daredevil" season 3 even though the Marvel comic book adaptation's fate is still in the balance.

Smith already directed an episode of "The Flash" on The CW, which received praises. "I feel very at home in that Flash world, so much so that I'd love to do the others," the 45-year-old podcaster told IGN.

Smith said that he wants to reunite with Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada, who he worked with the eight-issue "Daredevil" story arc called "Guardian Devil."

"That'd be wild to be able to do it in real-life. Let's co-direct it, that'd be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen," Smith said, remembering what he said to Quesada.

Although "Daredevil" season 3 is still not official, Smith is adamant in getting the chance to direct an episode. "I'm going to try and make that Daredevil thing happen," he guaranteed.

Smith also wants to direct the "Defenders" miniseries, which reports say is the reason behind the rumored delay of "Daredevil" season 3. The filmmaker said that they are "gearing up now" for the said show.

The show brings together Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), whose second season has already been announced, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).

Although there are expectations of "Daredevil" season 3 happening, Netflix is expected to prioritize "Defenders" first. The former's showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be showrunners for the latter as well.

Because of this, "Daredevil" season 3 may take a while to get here.
