'Descendants of the Sun' Korean actor Song Joong-ki earns 3.4 billion won from meetings with China fans

Song Joong-ki, the lead star of the popular Korean drama, "Descendants of the Sun," has had a busy schedule ever since the series ended earlier this year. Aside from being asked to endorse multiple products, he has been working on various film projects, one of which is "Battleship Island."

Reports stated that aside from his current film, Song has a lot of other projects including various fan meetings in Seoul and Shanghai. This weekend the actor has just concluded his "2016 Song Joong Ki Asia Tour Fan Meeting" held at Shanghai Indoor Stadium. Kim Jong-kook, a famous Korean singer who worked with Song on SBS' "Running Man," was his special guest.

Song has been enthusiastic about doing the events, because with all his tours, including China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, he has reportedly earned about 3.4 billion won (or $3 million) from appearances alone. He is also not one to shy away when it comes to sharing his good fortune. The proceeds from his fan meet in Thailand were all donated to an unnamed charity. Ticket sales in Shanghai were also donated to victims of the Sichuan Earthquake.

According to reports, the "DOTS" star has been receiving various calls for Chinese projects. He's currently being considered for a lead role in the Korean-Chinese production of "You, The Scent of Love" (which is the movie title's literal translation). Earlier in June, Song expressed his interest in starring in more Chinese projects.

"Descendants of the Sun" was considered as Song's big break. Due to its popularity, a movie adaptation is now said to be in the works, with a Chinese director set to helm the project. Fans have been expecting Song to return for the movie with his on-screen partner, Song Hye-kyo, but with the busy schedule of both actors, it seems very unlikely.

The 30-year-old actor has a big career ahead of him, and he is poised to leverage on his "DOTS" fame further to get more projects in the future.
