According to Entertainment Weekly, new characters will be added into the series starting with a rapper named Gram who will be played by "Entourage" star Scott Mescudi a.k.a. Kid Cudi. Gram is said to be Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) new rival in the music industry. But their rivalry will turn personal as spoilers reveal that Gram will be dating Hakeem's ex-girlfriend, Tiana (Serayah McNeill).

Things have been tough with Hakeem in season 2 after Laura (Jamila Velazquez) decided to call off their wedding. How will Hakeem cope up? Fans will have to watch out for that. Other stars that will be joining the "Empire" season 3 cast include Taye Diggs and French Montana.

Meanwhile, fans will be learning a whole new story of Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). The relationship of the two has been very complicated since the beginning of the series but in season 3, a flashback featuring their teenage years will happen. As reported on Deadline, Ajiona Alexus and Jeremy Carver have been tapped to play the roles of the younger versions of Cookie and Lucious, respectively.

In the flashback, Cookie is a "beautiful, innocent teenager" attending a Catholic school while Lucious is a teenager with an impressive talent in singing. He is also described to have that "bad-boy edge." He will easily capture the heart of young Cookie. So far, that's the only thing that has been made known but it's expected that plenty more of the backstory of the two will be covered.

But will the two ever return in each other's arms? Lucious was last seen marrying Anika (Grace Gealey) for the sake of keeping her from testifying against him. Cookie was there but she eventually walked out of the room before they could say their vows.

"Empire" season 3 will start airing on Sept. 21 on Fox.
