'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 spoilers news: EP teases group's hard life on the road, what's ahead for Nick
First they were on land, then on water, and now they're back on land.
When the back half of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 debuts, fans will reportedly find Madison (Kim Dickens) and the rest of the zombie apocalypse survivors hitting the open road.
While the last episodes of season 2's first half saw the survivors seemingly finding refuge on land after their time aboard the Abigail, their days at the luxurious compound in Mexico was short-lived and ended with some seriously destructive events.
In the mid-season finale, the group split up, with Nick (Frank Dillane) going solo despite his mother's pleas, Travis (Cliff Curtis) and Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) going off on their own, and Madison, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Strand (Colman Domingo), and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) hurrying off in a truck.
"Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the new predicament the survivors will be in when the second half of season 2 premieres.
"This is the first time, for all of them, where they have to survive on the land for a time and they have to figure out a way," he said. "That's going to be a crucial step for Nick, especially, when we first return next season. We're going to see each group, with one exception, struggling to find a place. There are going to be some close calls for everybody."
In another EW interview, the "FTWD" boss expounded on Nick's journey in season 2B, saying that the former heroin addict is off to find a place where other people see the undead the way he does — not as a threat, but as just another step in the evolutionary ladder.
However, his mission will reportedly take on a be-careful-what-you-wish-for angle.
"When he actually gets to a place with some degree of spiritual comfort for him," Erickson said, "it's not going to last very long."
The mid-season premiere is also expected to reveal whether or not Daniel (Rubén Blades) survived the fire he started in the mid-season finale.
"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 returns Sunday, Aug. 21, at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
