'Frozen 2' plot rumors, spoilers: Idina Menzel jokes about Elsa falling off a cliff

Will the upcoming "Frozen 2" see the death of the beloved ice queen Elsa?
Fans everywhere had a bit of a scare last month when "Frozen" star Idina Menzel, who voiced the fan favorite character, teased that Elsa could fall off an ice cliff in the highly anticipated sequel, "Frozen 2."
In an interview with E! News during the AFI Life Achievement Award tribute to composer John Williams, Menzel talked about the progress on the upcoming film, saying, "We are at story writing and they're working on it and I think I'm in it."
"That's all I know," she added, "unless maybe Elsa falls off an ice cliff and she dies in the first five minutes."
While the Tony Award-winning actress and singer was probably kidding, various media outlets have taken her statement as fact, saying that Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) could take over the throne in the aftermath of her older sister's tragic demise.
This is highly unlikely, however, as killing off one of the "Frozen" franchise's heroines probably won't be a wise business move on Disney's part. It also doesn't seem possible that "Frozen" fans will take kindly to Elsa meeting an untimely end.
Besides, should Elsa fall off a cliff, wouldn't the powerful queen use her magic to transform the bottom into a giant fluffy blanket of snow to cushion her landing?
Meanwhile, experts have weighed in on the potential impact of Elsa having a girlfriend in "Frozen 2," as many fans have been requesting.
In an interview with The Independent, Edward Schiappa, a professor of comparative media studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said, "There is no doubt that kids seeing positively portrayed gay characters could have a significant effect that would contribute to such children's learning about the world and who is in it."
While LGBT characters and relationships have become commonplace in popular culture, they are still practically unacknowledged in movies and television shows for children.
Disney has yet to announce the official release date for "Frozen 2."
