'Game of Thrones' author new book release date news 2016: Set to launch new book to commemorate 20th anniversary
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Game of Thrones," author George R.R. Martin has decided to launch a new book. It will not be "The Winds of Winter," however, but an illustrated edition of "Game of Thrones."
According to what Martin wrote on his blog, the book will contain a huge amount of artwork from the calendars of "The World of Ice and Fire." Art from the board games and role-playing games will be included as well. There would be 73 pieces of black and white interior illustrations and eight full-color pages in the book. Martin also says that the book will contain 48 never-before-seen pieces which will make the book a must-have for every hardcore collector.
The introduction for the book will be written by "World Famous Nebula Toastmaster" John Hodgman. Bantam Publishing also describes the book, claiming that it has "gorgeous full-page illustrations to open every chapter, the mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure of this magnificent saga come to life as never before."
In the post, Martin also took some time to remember the journey that he has overcome for the past 20 years since the release of "Game of Thrones." When the book was first released, it never really made great sales (but it had good reviews though). Martin would attend a few book signings here and there, but now that the show is out, he has received an all new type of success, and those days seemed like a far cry from the attention he receives now.
"It has been a helluva twenty years, twenty years that have transformed my life and career, twenty years during which the novel has never been out of print," Martin writes.
Though fans have been waiting eagerly for George R.R. Martin to release the next installment to the "Song of Ice and Fire" franchise, "The Winds of Winter," this new illustrated edition may keep them pacified long enough until the book comes out.
"Game of Thrones: The Illustrated Edition" will come out Oct. 18, 2016.
