It appears that Google is not just working on the Nexus 2016 smartphones, but also a pair of Android Wear smartwatches that are expected to be under the Google Nexus brand.

Android Police reports that these so-called Google Nexus smartwatches will be different in size, with the bigger one codenamed Angelfish and the smaller wearable dubbed Swordfish.

Both will come with a design the site referred to as circular "flat tires" although the former will be thicker. The similarities extend to the heart rate sensors present on both the Google Nexus smartwatch.

However, LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity and GPTS (Global Positioning System) support will be exclusive to the Angelfish Nexus smartwatch. This is why it has a thicker build – to pack a battery enough to power LTE.

In terms of design, the larger Google Nexus smartwatch will be similar to the Moto 360 and LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE.

The Swordfish will be close to the Pebble Time Round, but with a look reminiscent of that of the Apple Watch.

The Angelfish Nexus smartwatch will have three buttons, one of which will act as a crown and will be bigger than the other two. The Swordfish Nexus smartwatch will only have a single button.

There's no word with regards to what these buttons will do. BGR believes that that the Nexus smartwatches will run Android Wear 2.0 and will support quicker access to notifications and apps and more.

These Google Nexus smartwatches are expected to be unveiled this fall along with the pair of Google Nexus 2016 set to debut the Android N.

The first Nexus 2016 device codenamed Sailfish will sport a 5-inch display while the other handset nicknamed Marlin will come with a 5.5-inch screen.

Both will boast the Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 (or 830) processor 4 GB of RAM and two storage arrangements – 32 GB and 128 GB.
