Google Nexus Sailfish release date and rumors: Full HD display, Snapdragon 820, fingerprint scanner

The Google Nexus 6P | Google Nexus

It's no secret anymore that Google is gearing up to release two new Nexus smartphones and reports have it that HTC is going to be the manufacturer. However, official details about the devices are still scarce. The only available updates are those coming from leaks. The latest one in the rumor mill is regarding the variant internally known as the Nexus Sailfish.

Serial tipster Evan Blass revealed on his Twitter account that he discovered a build.prop file which contains few hardware details of the new Nexus smartphone. And so far, it's suggesting that the Sailfish is going to be equipped with high-end specs.

It's detailed in the leaked file that the device will sport a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 resolution and a screen density of 420. This means that Sailfish will be having a Full HD resolution instead of a QHD. It's also indicated that the device may be equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor after the code MSM8996 -- the model number of the chipset -- appeared.

Many are wondering though if the bigger Nexus smartphone known as Marlin will be equipped with the same processor or if it will be coming with the Snapdragon 821. Moreover, it's also revealed that a fingerprint scanner will be included.

This feature is highly expected since Google will want to make it convenient and easy for users when using the Android Pay. Both devices are also rumored to carry the upcoming operating system, the Android Nougat.

As of now, none of the details found in the leaked file are official or confirmed by Google or HTC. Thus, it's best to take reports with a pinch of salt. There's also no announcement yet on when the devices will be released but rumors claim that both the Sailfish and Marlin could be out around the same time that Android Nougat will roll out. It's reported that Android N could launch before September.
