'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers news: Meredith's love life about to get more complicated

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will be very different for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) in the love department. After losing her husband, Meredith is getting another chance at love, albeit a very complicated one.

In season 12, she and Riggs (Martin Henderson) started hooking up, but only because Meredith thinks that he is a "safe" guy who she will never fall in love with.

Spoilers say that the sexual tension between the two will develop into a full-blown romance in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. That alone is a complication for the Meredith and Riggs already.

However, it will get far more complicated in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 with Meredith's sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) head over heels for Meredith's hook-up buddy. In a TV Line interview, McCreary said that her character is "heartbroken."

"I think that the next phase of Maggie and Meredith's relationship is going to [involve them] having to draw some boundaries around their relationship," the actress continued.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Meredith and Alex (Justin Chambers) will instead be the ones to couple up in "Grey's Anatomy' season 13.The two have always been best friends and nothing more.

Alex has Jo (Camilla Luddington), who has a big confession to make in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. On the other Meredith is caught up in this mess with Riggs.

"I think there's something about them where fans sometimes feel like that might be inevitable, so they're getting ahead of it. So I don't think it surprises me because I think it's a logical place to go," executive producer Betsy Beers told E! News.

However, She emphasized the two are "best friends," at least they are moving towards "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. Although she understands where Mer-Alex shippers are coming from, Beers hinted that Jo is still the one that Alex will go after.

"There's so many Alex-Jo fansâ€”like, the Alex-Jo fans are crazyballs! So it's niceâ€”there's a little bit of something for everybody right now," she said.

From what she said, it appears that "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will not see the BFFs go beyond their friendship. After all, their love lives are complicated enough at the moment.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is expected to premiere this fall.
