'Halo 6' release date: Story for 'Halo 5' sequel already in place, 2018 launch likely

Last year, "Halo" franchise development director Frank O'Connor told GamesRadar that they have already laid out a "fictional foundation" for the franchise for the next 20 years.
This means that "Halo 6" is pretty much taken care of, at least with regards to the story. O'Connor revealed that developer 343 Industries already has their plans ready for "Halo 6."
"We're doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that's a luxury – we've never been in that position before," he stated.
"Halo 6" was originally part of what was called "The Reclaimer" trilogy. However, Microsoft found it best not to limit this saga into three installments.
"Halo 4" is the first installment in "The Reclaimer." From there, 343 Industries studio head Bonnie Ross believes that fans can figure out what "Halo 6" will be about.
"You can look at the ending of 'Halo 4' – and where Master Chief is and obviously we had to know where we were going to take 'Halo 5' and 'Halo 6' with that," Ross explained in GameRadar interview.
"You have an epic sci-fi universe and we have multiple ways that we can go with this story, but all the pieces are laying there. The canvas is there for us to paint," she continued.
Details on what "Halo 6" will be exactly all about are yet to be revealed although the story is expected to be based on "Halo 3" and "Halo: Reach" and should serve to continue the story of "Halo 5: Guardians."
"Halo 6" will be the first "Halo" game to be released in both the Xbox One and the personal computer (PC). Based on 343's recent release patterns ("Halo 4" was released in 2012 and "Halo 5" was out by 2015), "Halo 6" could be out by 2018.
