'Halo Wars 2' release date news 2016: Cover art leaked, reveals precious details about sequel
Days before its debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2016), the highly-anticipated real-time strategy game "Halo Wars 2" was leaked.
Reliable leakster LifeLower, who holds a credible track record in leaking all things gaming, shared what appears to be a promotional poster of the RTS sequel. According to Gamepur, the game is set after the events of "Halo 3."
What gives this away is the damaged core featured in the artwork. Add to that, according to NeoGAF member Kalentan, the "used up" foundry taking center stage in the image.
"The UNSC [United Nations Space Command] wanted to use it after taking control of it after the book events in 2555. But the Spirit of Fire was still reported MIA in 2558. So this must be posted Halo 4 maybe during Halo 5," the NeoGAF user points out.
"Halo" fanatics also make mention of the Ark that appears in the leaked "Halo Wars 2" artwork. The Ark, as long-time fans of the franchise would know, is a mysterious Forerunner installation where each and every Halo Installations across the galaxy can be activated at the same time.
Gamers can also spot Scarab, Locusts and Covenants and some Spartans in the "Halo Wars 2" poster. It is unclear what all these inclusions mean, but fans are certainly excited and happy about what they see.
The good thing is that fans won't have to wait long to learn more about "Halo Wars 2." It has already been announced that the game will be playable at E3 and that more details about its gameplay and other important elements of the installment will also be unveiled.
"Halo Wars 2" has been in development for quite awhile. Developer Creative Assembly is tasked with the development and production of the sequel with "Halo 5: Guardians" developer 343 Industries helping out.
The game is scheduled for a November launch.
