'House of Cards' season 5 air date, plot spoilers: Remy Danton no longer returning; Frank Underwood gets killed?
"House of Cards" season 5 isn't coming until next year but fans are already getting a heads-up on what will come next in the Netflix political drama series.
According to reports, an original character is no longer returning to the new season. Remy Danton, played by Mahershala Ali, will be saying goodbye to the series as his storyline will be cut short. Fans may recall in the season 4 finale that Remy was dismissed by aspiring president Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) along with Jackie Sharp (Molly Parker).
This potentially means that Remy and Jackie's love story will not be explored further. When asked about his character's departure, Ali said to Deadline that Remy's story has just run its course. He may have another upcoming stint in Netflix's "Luke Cage," which will alredy premiere at the end of the month, but it wasn't primarily the reason why he had to leave "House of Cards."
"There wasn't really anything new to offer the show, and there's a lot of people on that show!" Ali said. "It's not fair for me to say, 'Hey, I want to do more', because that might not work for the show," he added.
Ali believes that every show has its shelf life and the same holds true for his character. Nonetheless, he is happy with how things turned out for Remy in the end. He got the girl and he was moving out of the political field. Fans can still catch more of Ali in the new superhero show wherein he will be playing the role of Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes.
Meanwhile, rumors regarding Frank's demise is still circulating. The biggest question that fans have right now is whether Frank will live beyond season 5. He is rumored to be killed by his own chief of staff, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly).
Nothing has been confirmed yet but Frank could meet his downfall in the upcoming season. He almost died in the previous run with several encounters with danger. This was accompanied by his deteriorating health. But is Doug really going to be his killer? Frank has lots of enemies including his ex-wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright).
