Huawei Honor 5A release date announced; specs include 5-inch display, 13MP camera, Android Lollipop

Huawei's Honor sub-brand is set to unveil a new device to the public. Dubbed as the Honor 5A, the device will be available in China soon.

According to a report by The Times of India, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer teased in their official Weibo account a poster that announced the release date of the Honor 5A. The device is said to officially launch on June 12. There's no word yet on whether it will be available for sale on the same day, but it's expected to happen.

And although the device is not out yet, it was recently spotted listed at certification site TENAA. This gave the public an early look at the Honor 5A's specs and features which are noted to be decent and impressive for a mid-ranger. Chinatopix detailed that the handset will be featuring a 5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution.

It will be equipped under the hood with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and will be paired with a 2 GB of RAM. Its built-in internal memory storage is 16 GB. It's not mentioned whether it will have an expandable storage but it is expected. The device will be pre-installed with the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system which will be topped with Huawei's Emotion user interface.

As for the camera specs, Geeky Gadgets noted that it will be coming with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera for video calls and selfies. Keeping the device powered up is a 2,200mAh battery pack.

Rumors also have it that the Honor 5A will have a Plus variant. There is no word regarding its launch or release but it's expected, as International Business Times noted. It will have a 5.5-inch display, an octa-core processor running at 1.8 GHz and a 3,000mAh battery. It's also said to come with 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras.
