Despite the lack of confirmation, the film's main actor, Robert Downey Jr., recently gave fans hope after saying that he is still open for a fourth installment.

Downey was interviewed by ABC new while promoting his current movie, "Captain America: Civil War," and said that he is willing to participate in another Marvel movie.

"I feel like I could do one more," the 51-year-old actor said. The statement has sparked a new rumor that the production of the fourth installment might start pretty soon.

In an earlier interview with USA Today, the actor said that there may never be another "Iron Man" after "Captain America: Civil War," which is currently on cinema in some parts of the world.

"In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize," the actor explained. "Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

"Iron Man" the movie came out eight years ago as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The iconic role was played by Downey and it's what brought back his career.

"Captain America: Civil War" also features the cocky billionaire Tony Starks. The movie is set to debut in US cinemas on May 6, which put the character as a villain in the movie. However, Downey said that "Iron Man" will never be portrayed again as a villain in another movie.

"If we're going to go there, then we've got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow," he said.
