'Iron Man 4' release date rumors: Mel Gibson rumored to direct; Fin Fang Foom as main antagonist?

"Iron Man 4" is happening but the question remains on when the fourth installment of the movie franchise will be coming to the big screen. There is still no word on the exact date but there are rumors on the possible date.
According to a report by Hall of Fame Magazine, Robert Downey Jr. previously mentioned that since he has been packed with other Marvel films including "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Infinity War," a standalone film for Iron Man is far from happening. He also did not confirm a return anymore to the role.
But in an interview with ABC News, Downey Jr. gave a ball of hope to fans when he mentioned that he might still be able to do one more "Iron Man" movie. If he does end up reprising his role as Iron Man, it's unlikely that the movie will come out this year. It may still take a while before "Iron Man 4" happens.
Another rumor circulating online is that Mel Gibson will direct the superhero action film. As detailed in Uproxx, Shane Black, director and co-writer of "Iron Man 3," revealed that Downey Jr. would pick Gibson if he were to choose who the director will be for the next film. He also mentioned that the highest paid Hollywood actor is open to Gibson taking over the director's seat if ever it pushes through.
"I think he wants Mel Gibson to direct it. And for good reason. Mel was great to him. Mel's been really nice to a lot of people, including me," stated Black.
If rumors of Gibson directing the film proves to be true, it's expected that the film will still be years away from now. Meanwhile, rumors about who the villain will be have circulated as well. Crossmap wrote in a report that Iron Man may be facing against Fin Fang Foom, a dragon-like alien from the Maklu IV planet. Fans are assuming of Fin Fang Foom as the next villain since Mandarin, the villain from the last film, obtained powers from the monster.
None of the information released are official so it's best to take reports with a pinch of salt.
